1 injured as crews from multiple counties fight large forest fire in Elk County: 911

BENEZETTE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) UPDATE | Jay Township Fire Chief Brandon Kowalski tells 6 News that more than 100 acres of forest were impacted by Wednesday evening's wildfire, although he's not yet sure the exact amount.

Jay Township Fire Chief Brandon Kowalski tells 6 News that more than 100 acres of forest were impacted by Wednesday evening's wildfire, although he's not yet sure the exact amount.

Kowalski was the incident commander for the fire.

He tells 6 News it's still unclear what led to flames breaking out on a homeowners property around 3 p.m. before quickly spreading.

Crews from about 20 different departments were called to help fight the flames.

The wildfire threatened two structures which responding crews were able to save.

Kowalski says the homeowner suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Penn Highlands DuBois to be treated.

Overall, Kowalski says about 160 people helped fight the fire.

Crews cleared around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

Crews from at least six counties were called to battle a large forest fire in Elk County Wednesday, officials say.

The flames broke out around 3 p.m. in a wooded area near Winslow Hill Road and Treasure Hill Lane in Benezette Township near Route 555.

Emergency dispatchers tell 6 News at least one person has been injured and taken to Penn Highlands DuBois.

The fire had burnt through about two acres when first reported, but officials weren’t sure how far the fire has spread.

They say they have contained the flames from moving up the mountain, although the fire was still spreading as of Wednesday evening.

A 6 News crew is on scene.
