WINDBER - The Windber Youth Football League decided this week to switch from tackle football to flag football for elementary school players starting this season. The decision was made after six years of tackle football and because of concussion concerns. League vice president Michael Betcher thinks this way kids can learn the game while they're still growing and start tackle football when they are a bit older and can take a harder hit.
HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Wolf announced Wednesday the retention of 438 jobs over the next three years and major upgrades to the Domtar Corporation in Elk and Clearfield counties.
Domtar Corporation is a company dedicated to the design, manufacture, marketing and distribution of pulp, paper and personal care products.
Wolf said significant infrastructure and equipment upgrades will be made at its facilities in Johnsonburg, Elk County and DuBois, Clearfield County.

Darlene Ashcom, of Johnstown, received two checks in the mail this week, both read "PA Treasury" on the front of the envelopes.
She thought it was her property tax rebate check but instead, it was something else.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) — An investigation is being conducted into the death of two-time PGA Tour winner and Florida residentGrayson Murray.
The Palm Beach Gardens Police Department said on Tuesday that it is investigating the 30-year-old golfer's death, which occurred inside a residence within city limits on May 25 at around 11 a.m.
Following an initial investigation, police said there does not appear to be any signs of foul play.
Jefferson Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities with the Jefferson County District Attorney's office confirmed that a former resident of the Punxsutawney area has been sentenced up to 180 years in prison for repeatedly sexually abusing a young girl.
Officials say Douglas Poole was sentenced last Friday to serve 90 to 180 years after being convicted last November.
Poole was found guilty on all 61 charges he faced, which included rape, sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault.
