HARRISBURG, Pa. — After months of a substitute teacher crisis brewing across the Commonwealth, Governor Wolf has signed bipartisan legislation aimed at easing the shortfall. On Dec. 20, Act 91 went into effect expanding the pool of eligible substitutes to fill these temporary openings during the remainder of this school year and 2022-23. Representative Barb Gleim (R), who sponsored the bill, said in the past the state-issued 14,000 teaching certificates annually, now it's down to fewer than 5,000.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Maurice Stokes was a dominant force during his career at St. Francis College in the mid-1950s. He led St. Francis to the national invitational tournament in 1955, and despite a fourth-place finish, he earned Most Valuable Player honors.
