Cambria County nursing home resident celebrates 101st birthday with ice cold beer

PORTAGE, Pa. (WJAC) — A resident of a Cambria County nursing home celebrated his 101 birthday with an ice cold beer. Francis Warner, known by family and friends as “Uncle Bunny,” celebrated his birthday Thursday at Maple Winds Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Portage. Staff say they took special safety precautions so Warner could see his family. They say Warner’s room was also decorated and he was served a birthday cake.

Nicktown man dies from severe burns after accidentally catching himself on fire

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities say a Cambria County man passed away Monday from severe burns after he accidentally caught himself on fire. 911 dispatchers say crews were called to a residence in Nicktown, just before 3:30 p.m. Monday, for reports of a person on fire outside. Officials say the man was flown to a hospital in Allegheny County where he later passed away after suffering third-degree burns to 70% of his body.

Pair fined for illegal killing of 'trophy' white-tailed deer

CAMBRIA CO., Pa. (WJAC) — The Pennsylvania Game Commission-Southwest Region has announced details regarding a December 2023 illegal taking of a trophy white-tailed deer in Cambria County. According to a post on their Facebook page, the game commission stated that a game warden's investigation into the incident suggested that Zachary Burgan and Matthew Koenig illegally shot a 169” Boone and Crockett trophy at night, from a vehicle, with the use of the vehicle headlights.
